Ximena Hartsock is a Doctor in Policy studies, educator and entrepreneur.  She has 15 years of experience in education in the US as Assistant Superintendent, school principal, teacher and researcher.   In 2007 Ximena was appointed DC Public Schools Deputy Chief of Teaching and Learning. This position allowed her to expand international education, support instruction for ELLs, expand after school programs, and create academies to better address the academic needs of Latino students and close the achievement gap. In 2009 she was appointed by Mayor Adrian Fenty, DC Director of Parks and Recreation and in 2010 chief of staff of the City Administration of Washington DC.  Growing up in a family of teachers in Chile, Ximena’s strong commitment to improving opportunities for children and philosophy that education is the most powerful equalizer have deeply influenced her both personally and professionally. Ximena holds a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and philosophy Education, a Masters in Education and a Doctorate in Administration and Policy Studies from The George Washington University, Ximena has an extensive background in research with an emphasis on English Language Learners and the impact of parental involvement on student achievement. Her work has been published in a book and several journals.
