Steven Gomez is currently the Assistant Executive Director at Greater Newark Enterprises Corporation (GNEC) a 501(c)(3) non-profit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) that provides microloans and small business counseling and training services throughout northern NJ. Steven, originally the Programs Director at GNEC, oversees and supports much of the organization’s day to day operations focusing on developing microloan programs and development strategies to support training initiatives and strategic partnerships. This includes oversight of the Urban Entrepreneurs Development Institute (UEDI), in English and Spanish, as well as providing support resources and loan servicing/underwriting for participants of GNEC’s microloan finance programs. In the time between his stints at GNEC, Steven was the Director of Special Initiatives at BOC Capital Corp. (BCC) a non-profit CDFI based in Brooklyn, NY where he helped develop and support small business loan programs including microloans, small business loans, and industrial/construction contract based loans. Steven holds an MBA from Seton Hall University’s Stillman School of Business and a Masters in Economic Development from Seton Hall’s School of Diplomacy and International Relations. Prior to his work with GNEC, Steven held a career in information technology focusing on support services, training, and project management. He has also started, owned, an operated several successful small business ventures (including a café/restaurant) and has taught at the secondary and post-secondary education levels.
