Elisa Batista is a campaign associate at MomsRising.org, a million-member organization advocating for policies related to family economic security, child health and ending discrimination against mothers. She collaborates with the organization’s campaign directors to reach out to mothers through social media campaigns on the blogs, Facebook and Twitter. She also helps MomsRising educate the wider community on family economic security issues.

Batista is also a bilingual journalist and award-winning blogger. She is the co-publisher of the popular parenting website, MotherTalkers.com, which was named a “favorite mom blogger” by Ms. Magazine. In addition, her writing has appeared on the Huffington Post, Daily Kos, FOX News Latino and Wired News, where she created the wireless beat there and was nominated for a Western Publishing Association award. She has also helped the Environmental Defense Fund build out an online channel in Spanish to inform the Latino community on air pollution.

Due to her social media expertise and presence online, Batista is often sought out for advice and has been invited to speak at conferences such as BlogHer, Netroots Nation, the Coffee Party Convention and Latino 2.0. In 2011, she was named “best activist blogger” by Latinos in Social Media, an online network of 150,000+ Latinos.

Batista also co-founded and has also served on the board of trustees of a Spanish immersion school in Oakland, California, called Escuela Bilingüe Internacional. With 260 students between grades Pre-kindergarten to 5th grade across two campuses, the school is widely recognized as the first independent Spanish immersion school of its kind in the state of California. In just five years, it was accredited by the prestigious International Baccalaureate Organization, becoming the first elementary school in the East Bay to offer the curriculum.

When Batista is not on her computer or volunteering at the school, she is shuttling her children or training for races. She lives in Berkeley, California, with her husband, son and daughter.
