Christine Nieves Rodriguez joined the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in December 2011, bringing her experience as a communicator and news anchor to her work as program associate with the Foundation’s Pioneer Portfolio. She praises the team’s focus on “identifying innovations in health and health care by connecting with people who may not be part of the traditional health care system.” She views the team’s approach to seeking unconventional approaches and untested models as holding new possibilities for building stronger health care connections between Puerto Rico and the mainland U.S. Through her work with the Pioneer Portfolio, Nieves Rodriguez looks to “measure the pulse of slow hunches that can mature into promising ideas and innovations.” She envisions an expanded network of online platforms that can “harness the expertise of health care practitioners and professionals outside the health field.” Previously, Nieves Rodriguez was a presenter for the Hispanic Heritage Foundation’s Youth Award program. She emceed award ceremonies in major U.S. cities to celebrate the accomplishments of young talented Latinos in high school. She herself was a 2006 Youth Award awardee and received the Philadelphia/New Jersey Regional Gold Medallion for Leadership. Nieves Rodriguez anchored the Just the Facts video series at FactCheck.org. This program is a product of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania. She also hosted En Portada, a program aired on WWSI – TV 62, a Telemundo affiliate in Philadelphia. The show is dedicated to informing the community about current events and interviewing elected officials, community leaders and other individuals in the news. Nieves Rodriguez holds a BA in Communications and Public Service from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Science in Evidence-Based Social Intervention from the University of Oxford. In 2008, she was a Visiting Student in Media, Law and Ethics at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Born in England, she was raised in Puerto Rico and now resides in Princeton, N.J. She enjoys international travel, learning about startups and neuroscience, engaging in fierce conversations, and seeking out fine wines. She also loves crashing good lectures.
